William Wegman

The other day when I was on the plane back from visiting my family in western Colorado, I watched a show on Animal Planet – can’t remember the name, but it was about dogs. Each episode was a different breed, and this particular episode was about Weimaraners.

And one segment of the show covered photographer William Wegman, who is famous for shooting Weimaraners wearing human clothes and doing human activities such as fishing or sitting in chairs. The announcer spoke to the Weimaraner’s patience and docility as compared to other breeds.

Having been to a number of photoshoots in my professional life as an advertising guy, I have a deep appreciation for the mind-numbing tedium central to that type of photography. You have the photographer, the photographer’s assistant(s), the stylist, the stylist(s) assistant, the studio folks, the props, all the lighting, so on and so forth ad nauseum. (As you can probably gather this is definitely not my style of photography…lol) While I appreciate the end product, I can never see myself shooting commercially. And yes, the Weimeraner is an EXTREMELY patient dog to sit through that.

Either way, William Wegman’s site is definitely worth a look.

Hi, Paul, thanks for visiting my blog and leaving your encouraging comments.

My daughter is a photographer, and I enjoy taking travel photos. Your work is fabulous, and I enjoyed reading your articles, and knowing your thoughts and ideas too. I'll need to return later and scroll through your archives.

Hi Paul!
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. It's so nice to have someone new come for a visit!
I enjoyed looking through your blog and looking at your photography for sale. You are a very talented photographer! I will be visiting you on a regular basis to see what's happening with you. I always wondered how grueling it must be for dogs to have such adorable shots taken! I wouldn't want to do it either!! LOL
Please come back to see me!

Hi Paul,
Looking foward to checking out your photos. About William Wegman-is it just me or is there something slightly creepy about his dog pictures? the lighting is wonderful, detail grand, but there's something disturbing about the looks on the dog's faces. When I see them I feel it borders on abuse. Maybe that's the idea. See you on MySpace.

Hi Paul, Thanks so much for visiting my blog and your kind comments, much appreciated.

I got such a kick when the kids were little, being introduced to the photography of William Wegman, and sharing his work with my girls.

I visited your web site, your work is so beautiful!
I enjoyed each collection! Very inspiring!

Hi Paul!
Boy am I glad I found you! You have a great blog and very interesting reading. I have been looking for a "photo blog" for a while now and then I found you by chance when you left a comment at Lili M`s. I DO like blogland! I live in Sweden and I don`t go very far without my camera, a Canon EOS 350. I mostly shoot nature pics of flowers and animals but I do the occasional portrait as well. No good at it though!

Now I must go check out your website!

Be back soon!
Jeanette

thanks for visiting me at my blog. I liked reading your posts. I am a total amateur when it comes to photos- other than the snaps of my kids. However, I try to take the best pictures I can. Last Xmas I made notecards from garden photos. Please come visit again- Lee

Oh Paul, I remember these...I loved the way the dogs didn't seem to mind that some numbskull had put a morning suit on them and photogged them in the drawing room! Or put a tennis outfit on them poised upon the court racket at the ready...and they're beautiful dogs as well...I only remember them as barkless dogs and always thought it so sad, they couldn't talk...loudly at any rate. Thanks so much for coming by to see me and hope we left enough tomato gravy for you to sample...please do come again...

jmjtbshPaul,

Thank you for stopping by. I love your work. You have an incredible eye. I wish I had one-fourth of your talent! To answer your question: I don't know yet regarding Etsy. I just listed last night. I will keep in touch though.

I'll be back again soon.
Warm Regards,

You have been having great fun visiting and thanks for leaving a note. You are getting me very envious when you are talking lenses on your camera. I started out with the Minolta Dimagex50 as I wanted the convenience of size for (female here) the handbag. But having played with photography for a few years earlier I am itching to go to the SLR and really start playing. Yes I am at the other end of the world and should be safe in bed.
Have you visited ProBlogger?
